5 Big Records Abhishek Sharma Broke: Aged only 24 years, Abhishek Sharma rattled a spate of records during his memorable knock of 135 runs off 54 balls against England in the 5th T20I of the IND vs ENG series.
Abhishek made full use of the good batting conditions at the Wankhede Stadium as he blasted seven fours and 13 jaw-dropping sixes in his highly entertaining knock. This was his second T20I century, and it was only his 16th T20I innings.
For context: he is only the sixth Indian batsman to hit multiple T20I centuries, and he’s taken the last number of innings to hit his second T20I ton.
He made his debut last year and slammed a century in only his second T20I innings, against Zimbabwe. But that was followed by a string of low scores.

He started getting into this groove in South Africa and dominated the IND vs ENG series. Abhishek finished as the highest run-scorer of the series with 279 runs in five innings, scored at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 219 with one fifty and one century. His career strike rate in T20Is is now a whopping 193, which highlights his elite, intent-filled batting.
In Mumbai, he was at his dominant best. He hammered the England fast bowlers Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, and Jamie Overton to reach a 17-ball fifty inside the powerplay. Then, the left-hander whacked spinners Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone on his way to a 37-ball century. He didn’t halt there: despite wickets falling around, Abhishek kept hitting boundaries and eventually got out for 135 runs, setting India on the course to reach the total of 247 runs.
In the chase, Phil Salt provided England a great start by smashing 55 runs off 23 balls, but no other England batsman scored more than 10 runs, and they were bowled out for only 97, losing by a huge margin of 150 runs.
Abhishek will remember this night, and so will those who witnessed it.
