Ishant Sharma Talks about Virat Kohli: The 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle appears to be steering India towards a new era, departing from the dominant team of the late 2010s. The emergence of debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal during the West Indies tour serves as a hint of this shift. Yet, this transformation is not without the guidance of seasoned veterans such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been backing these young talents on the rise.

Ishant Sharma Talks about Virat Kohli and the Current Team Scenarios

Ishant Sharma Talks about Virat Kohli: When asked about Kohli’s role in nurturing the flourishing stars in the Indian squad, pacer Ishant Sharma offered insights that transcend mere skill development. Ishant emphasized that Kohli can set the benchmark for the team’s newcomers and juniors, not just through his words but also by exemplifying it on the field. “Being a senior, it’s crucial to lead by example in terms of scoring runs. Otherwise, the juniors might question the essence of seniority,” Ishant stated during his commentary debut on the international stage for JioCinema.

Ishant’s conviction lies in his belief that Kohli will wholeheartedly embrace this responsibility and excel at it. “I have no doubt that Virat Kohli will excel in run-scoring due to his current mental state and exceptional batting form,” Ishant affirmed.

Although Kohli has faced criticism for his Test run drought in recent years, he has showcased resounding performances in recent months, including a monumental century against Australia in Nagpur. His form speaks volumes, and this West Indies tour presents an opportunity for him to bolster it with substantial numbers.

Having witnessed a personal career resurgence under Kohli’s captaincy, Ishant highlighted that Kohli is adept at nurturing young Indian batsmen. He noted that Kohli’s leadership experience as the Indian team captain equips him with the skills to mentor emerging talents like Rishabh Pant.

“Having led the Indian team for a significant period, Kohli understands the art of nurturing youngsters. When newcomers like Rishabh Pant joined our ranks, he empowered them to trust their technique and play instinctively,” Ishant, who shares Delhi as his domestic representation with both Kohli and Pant, explained.

The bowler emphasized the significance of a captain’s backing. “A captain’s support is pivotal for a player’s growth. When your captain has faith in you, it carries immense weight,” Ishant concluded.

While Rohit Sharma now holds captaincy roles at the national level and has fostered the growth of players during his tenure with Mumbai Indians, the fans are hopeful that he can replicate this influence on talents like Jaiswal, Gill, and even the likes of Tilak Varma, who was recently called up for the T20 matches during the West Indies and Florida tour.

For Virat Kohli, it is just a matter of time. The veteran has unbreakable mental strength and an impeccable work ethic, which would help him stay in the game for a long time. And he has always risen back to form whenever he has had a hiccup in his career. In the evolving saga of Indian cricket, the torchbearers of experience like Kohli and Sharma stand as pillars of inspiration for the emerging stars, painting a promising picture of the team’s future.
