Will Virat Kohli Play in Ranji Trophy Match?: In a boost for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy team, Indian keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has made himself available for Delhi’s next Ranji Trophy match, which will be against Saurashtra in Rajkot, starting on January 23.
The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) have named star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli in Delhi’s list of probables as well, but Kohli’s participation isn’t yet confirmed as the DDCA haven’t heard back from the veteran Indian batsman.
Both Pant and Kohli played in all five Tests in Australia, where India lost the series 3-1 and lost their grip on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after eight years.
Kohli managed 190 across the five Tests. The worrying issue with Kohli was that all of his eight dismissals in the series were to deliveries outside the off-stump, caught by the keeper or in the cordon. Pant fared a bit better, scoring 255 runs, with his only half-century of the series coming in his last innings of the series in Sydney.
At the end of the series, head coach Gautam Gambhir said,
“I would always like everyone to play domestic cricket. That is how much importance domestic cricket needs to be given.”
Will Virat Kohli Play in Ranji Trophy Match for Delhi?
DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that Pant will be available for Delhi’s next Ranji game, but Kohli’s availability is not yet confirmed.
“Yes, Pant has confirmed his availability for the next Ranji game and will join the squad in Rajkot directly. About Virat Kohli, we want him to play, but we haven’t heard from him, while Harshit Rana is selected in the T20 squad [for the England games] and hence is unavailable,” Ashok Sharma told PTI.
While Kohli is retired from T20Is, Pant was not included in the squad to host England in the upcoming five-T20I series, starting January 23. It is not clear whether he was rested or dropped. Both the senior players are expected to be named in the squad for the ODI series against England and the following ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
