Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra shares his advice with the athletes who will represent the country in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics and suggests that they focus on the present.
Bindra was India’s first individual gold medalist at the Olympics, winning in the men’s 10-meter air rifle shooting event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Also a Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medallist, the Dehradun-born shooter is one of the most prolific athletes in the history of Indian sports.
Even now, after multiple successful campaigns at the Olympic Games, the 41-year-old is still one of only two Indian athletes to have won an Olympic gold besides the hockey teams of the past, joined by Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra in 2021 in that very exclusive list.
Abhinav Bindra Gives Advice To Indian Athletes
During a panel discussion conducted by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCC) mere weeks ahead of the Paris Games, Abhinav Bindra gave some vital advice to the Indian athletes.
“There are some similarities to my generation also. You have to show up and perform on the day. It is not easy. But, it is possible, if you cut out the past and the future, and live in the moment. Focus on the process of executing your skills,” he said.
Thierry Mathou, who is the French ambassador to India, was also present at this conference. He told the Indian athletes that he is looking forward to Cricket being added to the Olympics at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, reminding everyone that France finished second in cricket the last time the sport was at the Olympics all the way back in the 1900 Games.
The 2024 Paris Olympics will kick off on July 26, the date of the opening ceremony, which will take place on the shores of the Le Seine River. The games will come to an end on August 11
Over 10600 athletes will compete in 329 disciplines in 32 sports across 17 days. As far as India is concerned, 113 of our athletes will compete in 16 sports and will look to win more than seven medals, which is the country’s largest medal tally at the Olympics, achieved at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
