India will take on Zimbabwe in the third T20I of the five-match series today. And with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube finally joining the squad, what will be the India’s today playing 11.
These three players, who were part of the India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, were initially named in the team for the India Vs Zimbabwe T20I series.
But following India’s historic win over South Africa in the World Cup final, a storm brewed in the oceans surrounding Barbados and grounded all flights in the West Indies. This included team India’s flight and delayed the team’s arrival back to India by a few days.
Now, because a whole bus parade was planned for the World Champions in Mumbai, the three players who were to travel to Zimbabwe right after could not. Arriving in India on July 3, attending the parade on July 4, and then flying to Africa and playing a game on July 6 was just not possible.
So these three players were taken out of the squad for the first two games. But with a three-day gap between the second and third match – Jaiswal, Samson, and Dube have finally joined up with the squad.

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup despite being one of the best associate teams in the world. Having been pipped by Uganda for a spot in the tournament, Zimbabwe was the only Test-playing nation to have not played in the 2024 World Cup.
When the series started – Sai Sudharsan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana were named as substitutes for these three players. Sudharsan even played in the second T20I, but these three are now being sent back to India in favour of Jaiswal, Sanju, and Dube.
Out of the two T20Is played so far, the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team surprisingly won the first one after India’s young batting order collapsed while chasing a meagre total of 116. Meanwhile, in the second game, India batted first and went to town on the Zimbabwe bowlers. Abhishek Sharma, after scoring a duck on his debut, scored a fantastic 100, taking India to 234/2 at the end of 20 overs and a 100-run victory when all was said and done.

And now comes the big question, what will be India’s today playing XI for the upcoming game? While it is unlikely that India will make space for all three players in the playing XI, it is very likely that Sanju Samson will replace Dhruv Jurel as the wicket-keeper for at least a couple of matches
As Shivam Dube is already established in the main squad, he might find a way into the playing XI too. The player who might not be a part of the playing side is Yasahsvi Jaiswal. With three openers already in the playing XI, there is no place for Jaiswal in the side as long as the team is experimenting with Abhishek Sharma up the order.
