Run Machine In World Cricket: Batting in white-ball cricket has become a much more comfortable task in the past decade and a half than it used to be before that. The advent and rise of T20 cricket is perhaps the biggest factor for that. Attraction and entertainment provided by fours, sixes, and the glory moment of a century have made the pitches flatter, bats bigger, batters more muscular, and boundary sizes smaller.

Even Test cricket, which underwent a historic bowling-friendly period from 2018 to 2021, now has reverted to batting-friendly surfaces in most countries over the past couple of years.

Run Machine In World Cricket: Babar Azam

Who has been the most successful batsman over the past couple of years?

It would be very difficult to argue the case against Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is being hailed as the New run machine of Cricket World.

Having made his international debut in 2015, Babar Azam oozed class – Babar’s cover drive is a thing of divine beauty and immaculate balance – and immense talent. He took a while to get going at the highest level, but once his full range was unleashed, the bowlers had no place to hide. More so, he’s become a beast of a batsman since becoming Pakistan’s captain.

Talking about numbers over the recent years, first up, across formats, since 2021, he’s the leading international run-scorer in combined all three formats with 5304 runs in 118 innings at an average of 47 and has notched up 14 centuries, the most by a batsman in this period. Behind him are Mohammad Rizwan (4202 runs) and Joe Root (3838 runs).

He’s dominated the most in ODI cricket. Babar Azam Run machine of cricket history, has held the number 1 ODI batsman ranking for over two years now. In 27 ODI knocks since 2021, the right-hander has scored 1773 runs at a tremendous average of 68, cracking 7 centuries and 12 fifties – that’s 19 50-plus scores in 27 innings, showing his incredible consistency in the ODI format.

Babar is third on the list of most runs in T20Is since 2021, and is only overshadowed by opening partner Mohammad Rizwan and the belligerent T20 monster Suryakumar Yadav, but these two haven’t cracked the other two formats yet.

Talking about his batting in red-ball cricket, Babar Azam has averaged an impressive 50 in Test cricket since the start of 2021. In 20 Tests, he’s amassed 1727 runs and is the highest Pakistani scorer in this period while raising 4 Test hundreds and 11 half-centuries.

As per the Run Machine In World Cricket, Babar Azam ICC Batsmen rankings: Babar is ranked the number 1 ICC ODI batsman, ranked number 3 ICC T20I batsman, and ranked 4th in ICC Test batsman ranking.
