Top 5 Wicket Takers In WTC Finals History:- We are less than 24 hours away from the third-ever World Test Championship final, bringing the end to the 2023-25 WTC cycle. The match, which will be played at Lord’s, will see the two best-performing teams in Test cricket for the past two years, South Africa and Australia, take on one another.

This is going to be the third ever WTC final, with the first two taking place in 2021 and 2023. Australia is competing for the second time in a row in this match and is looking to win this title for the second time. This is South Africa’s first appearance in the final of this competition. A team that played the last two WTC finals is missing from this match, that being the Indian Cricket Team.

Today, we will look at the top five wicket-takers in the World Test Championship final before the Australia vs South Africa match. Which bowlers have done well at the biggest stage of Test cricket?

5) Scott Boland – 5 wickets

Scott Boland terrorised the Indian batting order in the one WTC final he played, the 2023 edition. While several Australian players played big roles in that victory, Coland took charge with the ball, being his team’s best bowler in that match despite not being a regular in the Australian Test team.

In the first inning of the match, Scott was a little costly, as he conceded 59 runs in 20 overs at an economy of 2.95. But he also took two important wickets in Shubman Gill and KS Bharat.

It was the second inning in which Boland balled out and took three wickets in 16 overs, dismissing Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. In the two innings and one WTC final he played, Scott Boland took five wickets at an economy of 2.92.

Two names that should also be recognised are Nathan Lyon from Australia and Mohammed Siraj from India, who have also taken 5 wickets in World Test Championship final matches, but have done so with a higher economy, 3.11 and 3.89, respectively, as compared to 2.92 for Boland.

4) Ravindra Jadeja – 5 Wickets

Ravindra Jadeja has represented India in both the World Test Championship final matches so far. And while the all-rounder has not been too impressed with the bat, he has been fine with the ball as the only Indian spinner to play both the matches.

Jadeja played in the first-ever WTC final in 2021 against New Zealand and took just one wicket throughout the whole match, that coming in the form of Tim Southee in the first inning. Then, in the second final against Australia in 2023, ‘Jaddu’ did much better.

In the first inning of that match, Jadeja took one wicket, dismissing an in-form Alex Carey. Then, in the second inning, he had his best time in a WTC final inning yet and took three wickets, dismissing the centurions from the first inning, Steve Smith and Travis Head, and also getting Cameron Green out.

In the two matches he played and four innings he bowled in the WTC finals, Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets for India at an economy of 2.83.

3) Trent Boult – 5 wickets

The last name in the five-wicket club, Trent Boult played in only one World Test Championship final, the 2021 match that saw New Zealand emerge as the World Test Champions. In that match, the Kiwi pace attack thoroughly rocked the Indian Cricket Team. A major role in this rocking was played by Trent Boult, who had a solid outing in that match.

In the first inning, Boult bowled over 20 overs and took two wickets at a solid economy of 2.22. Then, in the second innings, he did better, bowling 15 overs and taking three wickets at an economy of 2.60.

In two innings in a single match, Boult took five wickets. But his being ahead of Ravindra Jadeja in this list is down to his economy, which was 2.38 in this match.

2) Kyle Jamieson – 7 wickets

The only player on this list to win the Player of the Match in a World Test Championship final, Kyle Jamieson has played only one WTC final, the first one in 2021 for New Zealand, and took a whopping seven wickets in that game while dismantling the Indian batting order.

In the first inning of that match in 2021, Jamieson took the only fifer in WTC final history, taking five wickets in 22 overs with an unreal economy of 1.40. He dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah in that outing.

Then, in the second inning, Kyle took a backseat to the more experienced pacers in the team and took just two, dismissing Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.

In two innings in a single WTC final appearance, Kyle Jamieson took seven wickets with an awesome economy rate of 1.33. For his efforts, he was named the Player of the Match for the 2021 World Test Championship final.

1) Mohammed Shami – 8 wickets

Mohammad Shami is one of only two Indian Cricket Team bowlers to have played in both the World Test Championship finals. And while Ravindra Jadeja had an average outing with the ball, Shami made actual differences with the leather in hand in the matches he played in.

Shami led the Indian bowling attack in the first WTC final against New Zealand in 2021. In the first inning of that match, he took four wickets and helped keep the Kiwis to an unmanageable total. But then,. In the second inning, he struggled like every Indian bowler and took no wickets.

Then, in the second WTC final against Australia, the ace-pacer took two wickets, dismissing Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green. However, he was also very costly that day. Then, in the second inning, he again took two wickets, getting out Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins this time around.

In the four innings across two WTC finals, Mohammed Shami has taken eight wickets with an economy of 3.26.
