Chamari Athapaththu Tops ICC Women ODI Ranking: Sri Lanka’s captain, Chamari Athapaththu, has etched her name into the annals of cricketing history. The inspirational left-hander’s recent exploits with the willow have propelled her to the summit of the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings, dethroning the illustrious Australian opener, Beth Mooney, from her perch.

Athapaththu’s ascension to the pinnacle of the rankings comes as a fitting reward for her scintillating form in the enthralling series against New Zealand. Over the course of three matches, the Sri Lankan stalwart amassed a staggering 248 runs, including a breathtaking knock of 140 not out from a mere 80 deliveries. 

Her blistering innings not only powered her team to an improbable series victory but also marked the first time Sri Lanka had conquered New Zealand in a bilateral women’s ODI series.

The 33-year-old batting virtuoso initiated her assault on the Kiwi bowlers by smashing an unbeaten 108 in the opening encounter. Despite a minor hiccup in the subsequent clash that led to a first-ball dismissal, Athapaththu’s fearless aggression remained undeterred as she approached the series decider.

Her name now finds a place alongside the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya, the solitary Sri Lankan male cricketer to have graced the summit of the ODI rankings. Together, they stand as proud flag bearers of Sri Lankan cricket, forever etched in the annals of the sport’s history.

While Sri Lanka’s triumph in the series brought immense joy to their camp, New Zealand had reasons to rejoice as well. Their tenacious skipper, Sophie Devine, scaled new heights in the rankings, climbing six places to secure the 13th spot among the ODI batters. Additionally, the experienced seam bowler, Lea Tahuhu, surged three places to jointly occupy the 14th position on the ODI bowler rankings, courtesy of her five-wicket haul across the three matches.

Meanwhile, the clash between the West Indies and Ireland witnessed its fair share of movements in the rankings. Stafanie Taylor, the West Indies stalwart batter, showcased her class and resilience, elevating her stature by one spot to occupy the ninth position in the batter rankings. 

Not to be outdone, Gaby Lewis of Ireland showcased her mettle, ascending an impressive five places to seize the 21st position. On the bowler rankings, the West Indian pace spearhead, Shamilia Connell, surged an impressive four places to secure the 24th spot, leaving an indelible mark on the tournament.

The captivating Ashes series between England and Australia also witnessed notable fluctuations in the T20I rankings. Ashleigh Gardner, Australia’s dynamic all-rounder, continued her scintillating form, advancing one place to claim the sixth position among the top T20I batters. 

On the other hand, England’s talented Sophia Dunkley showcased her growing prowess, leaping four places to attain the 16th position. Among the bowlers, Sarah Glenn of England rose one spot to secure the third position, while Australia’s Jess Jonassen made significant strides, vaulting four places to claim the 18th spot on the T20I bowler rankings.
