Moeen Ali Picks Dhoni as Greatest Indian Player: Choosing the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in a particular sport is an opinion piece, especially when you have a lot of close contestants. Whether it is between Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi in football, Michael Jorden vs Lebron James in basketball, Djokovic-Federer-Nadal in tennis, Sachin Tendulkar or Don Bradman, or a few more in cricket, the answer will change as per whom you are directing the question at.
Moeen Ali Picks Dhoni as Greatest Indian Player
When South African cricketer Moeen Ali was asked to pick the five greatest Indian players who ever played the sport, it was not Sachin Tendulkar who came at the top. Instead, he picked India’s legendary World Cup-winning captain, MS Dhoni, as the GOAT of Indian cricket. He has a reason for it, too. What Dhoni has done for Indian cricket as a captain is unparalleled, winning three major ICC trophies, including the T20 World Cup in 2007, the ODI World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013.
“For me, No. 1 is Dhoni. He was a great player, but people forget how good he was. It is everything he won as a captain for India. “Virat (Kohli) is No. 2 because he is great and one of the best players.”
Picking his former teammate at RCB Virat Kohli as the second-greatest, Moeen Ali gave the master blaster the third position.
“It pains me to say this but he (Sachin) is No.3 because of him being Sachin and I think he started the (art) of proper batting. There was Sunil Gavaskar as well but he was before my era so I didn’t see a lot of him. But Sachin was just different level,” stated Moeen Ali said.
