I Could Never Captain Like MS Dhoni OR Virat Kohli – Says RCB Skipper Faf Du Plessis, MS Dhoni, one of the greatest captains in cricket, has suggested that he is in the final phase of his career. It is unclear whether the Chennai Super Kings skipper intends to play another season in the Indian Premier League, but his fellow cricketers have been paying tribute to him. Faf du Plessis, the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper who spent most of his IPL career playing for the Chennai franchise, had nothing but admiration for the CSK skipper in an exclusive chat with NDTV.
After being released by CSK ahead of the 2022 IPL, the former Proteas skipper was later signed by RCB and appointed as the captain following Virat Kohli’s resignation from the role in 2021.
Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore, has recently shared his admiration for MS Dhoni, his former captain at Chennai Super Kings during his time with the franchise.

“Very lucky to have played with leaders that I could learn from. When I was playing for South Africa, Graeme Smith was the captain there and then my first year moving to Chennai, I didn’t play one game that year but my sole purpose from the season was to learn. I would be sitting next to Stephen Fleming, asking him questions. A lot about leadership, more than he would’ve expected someone to ask,” he said.
As per I Could Never Captain Like MS Dhoni OR Virat Kohli – Says RCB Skipper Faf Du Plessis, During his first season at CSK, Faf du Plessis didn’t get many opportunities to play. However, he was eager to learn from Stephen Fleming and also closely observed MS Dhoni and his leadership style.

“I was just observing MS from a distance. I was stealing from my eyes, my years about why he is so successful, what makes him so successful. Even at that stage, one of the most successful international and domestic captains in the world of cricket. It was a privilege to learn from someone like that. But I think also something that I picked up really early on was the importance of being the leader that you are. I could Never Captain Like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli or Graeme Smith or Stephen Fleming. I find my own way but you can look at things and incorporate from other people,” he shared.
“Something that came from MS is how calm he is and I think that’s something that I have shown through my leadership as well. I am always trying to make sure that I am very clear with my players. You give your absolute best and move on. So, I think that will be the biggest one I picked from MS. He is called captain cool for a reason. There’s no greater guy to learn about being cool than MS Dhoni,” du Plessis added and he said he could Never Captain Like MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli.

In 2021, RCB purchased the former Proteas skipper from CSK and appointed him as the captain after Virat Kohli stepped down from the role.
As of now, RCB has secured the fifth position in the points table of IPL 2023 with six wins and six defeats. In their last two league games, Faf du Plessis and his team will be competing against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans.
