Al-Nassr Could Play In The UEFA Champions League: Reports suggest that Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, which is currently the home of global football star Cristiano Ronaldo, has received an invitation to play in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League.
The biggest annual club football competition in the world, the Champions League, and its predecessor The European Cup, have exclusively had UEFA-affiliated clubs compete in it since its inception in 1955.
However, it now seems that it is about to be changed, as a continental tournament is set to extend a reservation to a club from another continent.
Ever since Cristiano Rondaldo’s move to Al-Nassrin in late 2022, the club has grown in popularity exponentially. Many stars from the European leagues made their way to the Saud Pro League for lucrative contracts, as world stars like Neymar, Sadio Mane, and Antonio Kante play for different clubs in the Middle Eastern league.

According to Alharbi, UEFA is looking to capitalize on the popularity worldwide popularity of Cristiano Ronaldo by making his return to the tournament one more time. While breaking the news, Alharbu tweeted –
“The European Union intends to extend an invitation to Al Nassr to participate in the 2024 UEFA Champions League, being one of the three most famous clubs in football and because Al Nassr has great and great popularity on the European continent.”
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most prolific player in the history of the UEFA Champions League. The Portuguese legend has scored 140 goals and assisted 48 in his 183 appearances, that is only 1 goal contribution per appearance. Ronaldo has also won a record five Champions League titles, one with Manchester United and four with Real Madrid.
While inviting a club from outside of Europe to the UEFA Champions League might run some fans the wrong way, it cannot be argued that the global appeal of a superstar like Cristiano Ronaldo playing in the league again will be good for its growing popularity. Plus, this move can also be a catalyst in FIFA’s mission of expanding the horizons of the beautiful game across the world.
