Ashraful criticizes BCB on Tamim Iqbal Management: Bangladesh’s former captain, Mohammed Ashraful, believes that BCB could have managed the Tamim Iqbal situation better. He also opined that it has affected the team’s underperformance in the World Cup, which is going on in India. Bangladesh lost three out of four matches they played, including the embarrassing 7-wicket defeat to India.
What Really Happened With Tamim Iqbal?
The selectors of Bangladesh Cricket had omitted Tamim from the World Cup squad, stating that he was unfit to play for the tournament. The drama had gone to the limit, and some even stated that the current captain, Shakib Al Hasan, had a role in it. When the drama intensified, Tamim criticized the board and stepped back from the team.

Ashraful thinks that Tamim, who is a veteran of the game, deserves more respect. He even pointed out how New Zealand treated their captain, Kane Williamson when he got injured prior to the World Cup.
“Look at New Zealand. Williamson got injured at the IPL, but New Zealand still chose to take him to the World Cup. Bangladesh could have handled the Tamim situation differently. He’s someone who has played international cricket for 17 years. You can’t treat him like that. It’s not good.”
He also stated that the entire drama took a knock on the Bangladesh team’s performance.
“Three months ago, things were looking good for Bangladesh in one-day cricket in particular. Suddenly, Tamim got injured, and he left. We were genuinely hoping we could make the semis. But the performances haven’t been there at this World Cup.”
Ashraful also shed some light on the current squad. He said that the Bangladesh team has talents, but to win in big competitions, you need to become a performer.
“When I started, we had just gotten Test status. The talent was fine back then. I was considered a talent. I made a century on Test debut. After 23 years (of getting Test status), we should have been much better. The talent is there. Tanzid (Hasan) looks talented. He has the shots. But more than talent, you need to be a performer.”
