Novak Djokovic Challenges Tennis Chiefs in Interview
Novak Djokovic’s bold stance on tennis authorities came in an interview in which he came forward to voice against the players’ pay. He said that the players deserve better pay and better treatment from the Tennis organizations. He also added that sports in general are not treating players well but he can only speak for Tennis.
“There is currently a monopoly in tennis, as well as in other major global sports at that level, but I can only speak when it comes to tennis,”
He also criticized the silence of the ‘paid media’ regarding the issue
“Many media, also, who are in tennis choose not to write about this topic because it is not in the interest of those who pay them. It’s a vicious game and a vicious circle, but as long as I have a voice to be heard, I will use it.”
Djokovic also admitted that the current change in the pay structure is the result of the pressure applied by the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA) on the ATP.
ATP has announced a transformative financial security program to take care of players. It will start rolling in 2024 and the first three years will be a trial period. The scheme will provide a guaranteed base earning for the top 250 fighters under the ATP.
