The morning session saw openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett switched their ‘Bazball’ mode on and started attacking Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The score raced up to 50 in just 10 overs. It was when Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja came into attack on this rank-turner that the English batters felt the heat.

In the 12th over, Ravi Ashwin, after a barrage of off-spins, threw a ball straight down the line to Duckett, who misjudged it as it was hitting the pad. The umpire immediately signaled out, but the batter decided to take a review which showed up a ‘Umpire’s Call’ verdict, 55/1.

It was now the turn of the other spin-twin, Ravi Jadeja, who then plucked Ollie Pope’s wicket, making the batter edge the ball to Rohit Sharma in the 1st slip in the 15th over, 58/2.
Ashwin then struck again in the very next over. As Zack Crawley attempted to hit back on the, he struck the 1st ball of the 16th over hard but was caught on mid-off by hometown boy Mohammed Siraj, 60/3
It was now up to the experience of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root to steer the English ship. And they did just that, now allowing the Indian to scalp another wicket in the first session which ended at a scoreline of 108/3.
