Will Neymar Undergo Surgery Following Injury?: Brazilian football star Neymar will undergo surgery following an ACL tear during a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier. The 31-year-old is set to miss months of action following the major injury.
Brazil took on their fellow South American side Uruguay on October 18 in Montevideo, Uruguay. In the match, it was Darwin Nunez who opened the scoring in the 42nd minute. Just a few minutes after that, Neymar collided with Uruguay’s Nicolas de la Cruz and landed awkwardly on his left leg.
It was immediately clear that something had gone very wrong when the record Brazilian goalscorer clinched his knee and motioned towards his dugout. Neymar had to be taken off the field on a stretcher, with the AL-Hilal striker crying out in pain and disappointment.
Brazil went on to lose the match 2-0 as de la Cruz scored a second goal for the home team in the 77th minute.

Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, who bought Neymar’s services back in the Summer transfer window of 2023, released a club statement on Twitter where they revealed the extent of the Brazilian’s injury –
“The medical tests Neymar underwent, confirmed the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus tear injury in his knee, he will be going through surgery and then a treatment program that will be determined later,” they wrote in a Twitter statement.
The Brazilian FA (CBF) also released a statement, where they confirmed that Neymar will undergo surgery following an ACL and meniscus tear. The statement also stated that the FA and AL-Hilal will be in touch regarding Neymar’s treatment and healing timeline.
The Brazilian superstar did undergo surgery on November 2nd which was deemed to have been successful. The average time for an ACL tear to completely heal is somewhere between 6 and 12 months. So it is safe to say that Neymar’s 2023-24 season has come to a premature end. This also means that he is likely to miss Copa America 2024, to take place in the US in June.
